AAPD Meeting San Diego

I've been lucky enough  to be provided the opportunity to come to San Diego for the annual AAPD (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry).

What a beautiful city! I know this isn't related to the DAT but I thought it'd be fun to post pictures of the meeting and maybe make a post about some  the lectures I will attend where speakers will talk of current topics in Pediatric Dentistry.

Stay tuned for pics and posts :)

Hope Studies are going well for you all!

The Reading Comprehension Test of the DAT, new page with Tips on how to Practice and Prepare for it!

Hope everyone who celebrated it yesterday had a great Mother's Day! Shout out to the amazing women who brought us into the world and helped shape us into the people we are today!

Anyways, just wanted to make everyone aware of the new page added about the Reading Comprehension Test of the DAT!

Included are some tips on how to prepare, what the interface will look like when you actually take it and some highly recommended practice materials that are most similar to the DAT in difficulty and presentation!

Check it out here at:

Average Dental Admissions Test (DAT) Scores from 2002-2011 and other DAT Statistics

In the year 2011, 13,777 DAT tests were administered. This figure is slightly lower than the 13,406 tests administered in 2010.
However, in 2011, there were 8,732 test takers, about 150 more examinees than 2010's 8,585. (See figures below).

Number of DAT Tests Administered from 2002-2011

Number of DAT test takers from 2002-2011

Although the average number of test takers from 2006-2011 has been hovering around 8,700 examinees a year, the average score for the DAT has been steadily on the rise. (See below)

Average First Time DAT Scores from 2002-2011

In 2002, the average SNS/PAT/ACA scores were 17.2/16.5/17.5 for people that took the DAT for the first time. Last year, the numbers were up to 18.1/18.7/18.4!

In terms of gender and race statistics of test takers, the gender ratio has remained around 50:50 (give or take a percent or two) throughout 2002-2011.

Roughly half of all test takers throughout 2002-2011 were Caucasians.  Asians made up about 20% of the test takers. African Americans and Hispanics comprised roughly 12% together, and about 1% of examinees are Pacific Islanders.

Okay, You have just completed the entire science review, math, and PAT review of the entire DAT in 4 weeks. Take the next 2 days off, you deserve it.

Before going further, from this point forward, your going to be mostly working on problem solving, whenever you come across a problem (ESPECIALLY IN THE SCIENCES), make sure you understand it 100%. Understand why every answer is correct / not correct, don’t let anything pass by you. Use your review books, come to SDN on the DAT forums and ask questions, just make sure you understand all the problems from this point forward.

You will be spreading the destroyer problems over a 2 week period. The new 2010 destroyer has 232 orgo, 242 GC, and 377 biology questions. I will divide them such that over the next 2 weeks, you will go over the ENTIRE destroyer 2x times. Each day you will do 22 orgo problems, 23 GC problems, and 36 biology problems

Thursday: Do the following DAT destroyer problems:
Orgo 1 – 22
GC 1 – 23
Biology 1 – 36

Do CRACK DAT PAT test #1. When your done with your test DON’T DO ANYTHING ELSE, store your results and DON’T LOOK AT YOUR MISTAKES. Exit the software

Do MATH destroyer test #1. I am going to suggest for you to not time your self. First learn to do things right, then work on your speed. Do these tests, mark your answers on a separate sheet (but not on the exam itself cause your going to do each exam multiple times). When your done taking test #1, go over EVERY problem you got right and wrong. You should learn MATH destroyer really well cause about 80% of those problems simply reappear on the real DAT

Friday: Do the following DAT destroyer problems:
Orgo 23 - 45
GC 24 - 47
Biology 37 – 73

Do MATH destroyer test #2. Same way as before, don’t time yourself, after your done with the test, go over each problem and learn from mistakes

Saturday: Do the following DAT destroyer problems:
Orgo 46 - 68
GC 48 - 71
Biology 74 - 110
